We are thrilled to announce Classes at Shore River Gardens! Floral design, gardening topics, and even some unusual surprises! All classes will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
If a class is full, you may put your name on the waiting list.

Cut flowers can last a few days, or for weeks...depending on what stems you select, and how you care for them. Learn what to look for (and what to avoid) when choosing cut flowers, as well and tips and tricks to get the longest possible vase life from your flowers. Proper cutting and conditioning, the use of floral preservatives and sealers, and optimal maintenance practices will be covered. Includes demo.

Floral foam revolutionized the cut flower industry. But, concern for our environment and a preference for sustainability have raised questions about its use. Learn the pros and cons of floral foam, and discover other types of design mechanics that are more planet-friendly. Includes demo.

That most popular of floral arrangements, the simple Mason Jar is a simple design that everyone can master. Casual and colorful, the Mason Jar is a versatile arrangement, perfect for centerpieces, gifts, or any occasion!

Glass cube and cylinder vases are probably the most popular choice for centerpieces these days. And thankfully, they're easy to make! In a 5"x5" vase, we will create a design that is low & clustered, and has minimal greenery, for a lush look that puts the flowers at center stage.

Another arrangement with very few rules, a vase of wildflowers is always a favorite! You can typically create one with whatever you have on hand from your garden, in any type of tall vase. We will work with multiple kinds of greenery, and flowers of assorted colors and textures, for a look that is casual and romantic. Class includes vase, cut flowers and instruction. All tools will be provided for use in class. Cost: $98. Class Limit: 8 students.

Putting together a bouquet of flowers must be pretty easy, right? Well, it's not exactly difficult, but there are tips and techniques that can turn your basic bunch of stems into a really breathtaking arrangement, ready to drop into any vase! We will cover color and texture choices, mechanics, and the tricks to assembling that perfect bouquet. Class includes cut flowers, materials and instruction. All tools will be provided for use in class.

We are often tempted to arrange flowers in symmetrical patterns. But that isn't how they naturally grow! In this class, we will create our design in an informal wood box, with flowers arranged in a more natural style. Full of different colors and textures, this arrangement will make you think of a summer garden! Class includes cut flowers, container and instruction. All tools will be provided for use in class.

Asymmetrical designs can be informal, like the garden-style box, but they can also have a contemporary twist! Modern arrangements can have straight lines, angles or curves, and use colorful palettes or monochromatic color schemes. But what they all have in common is an unmistakable sense of style! Light on fillers and big on visual impact, you get the most out of your flowers with a modern design. Class includes cut flowers, container and instruction. All tools will be provided for use in class.

Looking for a unique activity to do with friends? Enjoy an evening of fun with your besties, while you all create gorgeous floral designs! Each two-hour session includes a beautiful selection of fresh cut flowers, choice of container (or you may bring your own), and instruction by our floral designer, Nancy. Events will be tailored to each individual group, based on your choice of design and experience level. Make your own glass jar terrarium in this fun hands-on class! You will learn which types of plants work best for terrariums, the proper growing medium and drainage methods, proper assembly, and more. Deer are a beautiful part of our native habitat. But, living with them can be a challenge for gardeners! So, what can you do to prevent your beautiful garden from becoming a buffet? Start by choosing the right plants. Learn about the types of plants deer typically avoid, and what you can do to limit the damage on the plants you already have.

Roses are a beautiful addition to any landscape, but many people aren't familiar with the basic techniques to make them thrive. Proper planting methods, plus pruning, fertilizing and pest control will be covered in this class. Cost: Free. Class limit: 8 students.

Would you like to grow your own vegetables, but don't have much space? It's not impossible, but it does take some planning ahead. In this class, you will learn about vegetables that can be grown in containers, raised beds, and smaller plots of ground. Our instructor will discuss all these options, plus the proper soil mixes and fertilizers for vegetables, and demonstrate seed sowing & transplanting seedlings from packs.

The butterflies need our help! Their numbers are steadily decreasing due to habitat loss. But, how can we help?
It's actually pretty easy. Learn how to attract butterflies to your yard with a garden that provides them the food and shelter they need to survive. With the proper habitat, butterflies will come to your garden, and raise their families with you for generations to come!

For anyone with limited space to garden, growing plants in containers is a great alternative. In this class, you will learn how to design and plant a container garden, with a demo by our instructor. Choosing a the right container, the proper growing medium, and combining plant material in a harmonious design will be covered.

Hydrangeas are probably the plant we get the most questions on. There are several different kinds, each requiring different conditions and care...which can lead to some confusion for gardeners. Learn the differences between the varieties, what conditions they prefer, and how to keep them happy. Proper planting methods, plus pruning, fertilizing and pest control will be covered in this class.
